3 Best Weight Loss Tips

There are 3 things that must be done to lose weight. Diet, exercise and motivation. Without these three things you will not get optimal and healthy results. We all know that to lose weight, you must use up, or burn more fat than you eat. This sounds easy enough but can be hard to do. The third factor is motivation. You will need to put into place a few strategies and techniques that will increase your motivation levels which will help you stay on track in reaching your goals.

Changing you diet should be your first step. This should be a gradual process. When making the changes progressively, you are more likely to stay on track. If you suddenly exclude all your favourite foods, and go on a strict low-fat diet, you will tend to crave the things you used to eat and end up going back to your old eating habits. For example, start off by changing you snack foods during the day to healthier options. Then change what you eat for lunch, start packing your own lunch instead of buying take out. Then start eating healthier dinners and so on. By doing this gradually you will adjust to eating healthier foods and wont have cravings.

Exercise is a component of weight loss many people leave out. You will lose some weight by changing what you eat, but the results will be accelerated if add an exercise program. Your exercise program should include cardiovascular exercise. They are exercises that raise your heart rate, and keep it raised in the fat burning zone for an extended period. Examples include jogging, walking, riding a bike and swimming laps. You should exercise at least 4 days a week, and for 30 minutes sessions to get optimal results. Once you have started losing weight, you can add resistance exercises to help tone specific parts of your body. Examples include lunges and squats to tone the legs, crunches to tone the stomach, and push-ups and chin-ups for the upper body and arms.

The last aspect many people leave out is finding the right motivations to lose weight. You must understand the health benefits of losing weight. Yes you will look better, but you will also reduce the risks of many diseases and health problems. For example, losing weight with diet and exercise will help decrease the risks of heart and lung disease, stroke and diabetes. Another important part of motivation is goal setting. You should set yourself a long-term goal, and smaller short-term goals. A long-term goal might be to lose 60 pounds in three months. Then break this up into smaller goals, such as this week I must lose 5 pounds. As you reach your goals you will more motivated to continue on with your weight loss program.
