Art of Snacking

The art of snacking; you may ask, isn't that a contradiction of terms when you are talking about dieting and eating healthier? Well, let's look at it this way. Snacking is one of the underlying reasons why diets fail. Snacking can and does happen, so instead of treating it like it doesn't exist, or it won't ever happen, I wanted to reach out and say, "Hey, I understand, and here is some information you may find helpful."

How many times has it happened, that all day you were right on target, following your diet plan, right down to the letter, then IT happened. It was only ONE (fill in the blank, cookie, doughnut, dessert), then before you know it, your snacking has returned and your weight is up. When you feel a "snack attack" ready to strike, take heart, because there are some healthy choices you can reach for.

When you are eating a snack that is not one of your healthier choices, you may ask yourself, "Why am I eating this snack instead of something healthy?" The first few reasons may be obvious, you are hungry and it tastes sooo good. But another not so obvious answer may be because of time and convenience! Pre-packaged treats such as cookies or candy are quick and easy to eat with nothing to prepare or clean up after. You can just grab, eat, and go. Sometimes, time is just not on your side. You have many things that need to get done, but you don't have time to sit down and eat a proper meal, but you are hungry right now, and this is where you might make a snack choice based on ease of use, and time involved, and not a choice based on nutrition. If this ease of convenience is part of your answer, then the solution can be simple. After all, nature has a few quick and easy with no clean up afterwards snacks to offer you too! Berries! Wonderful, colorful, healthy, good for you berries. Blackberries, Strawberries, Blueberries, and Raspberries.

These amazing fruits contain anthocyanins. Without going into great detail here, the bottom line is this. The anthocyanins is what gives these fruits their rich deep colors. The health benefits we derive from them is their ability to increase our energy level, strengthen our immune system, and help in our fight to lower our chances in developing certain types of cancer. We are asked to multi task every day, so why not ask the same of the foods we eat? Being able to have something great tasting, convenient, satisfying, and that has health benefits too can be a perfect addition to our busy lifestyles.

I hope you found this article informative, and can see that snacking can not only be a part of your weight loss journey, but it can have some positive health benefits as well.
