Easy Ways to Stay Fit During the Holidays

The holidays are the hardest time of the year to lose weight. From Thanksgiving to the New Year there are parties and get together's that come with tons of food that has a lot of calories and fat and offer little nutrition. But there are a few ways in which you can stay fit during the holidays or work off the pounds that you do.

Just say no to alcohol. Don't sabotage your efforts with the beer and cocktails that are usually served at holiday parties. If you do, you will probably be more likely to eat unhealthily because your appetite will be increased. It's fine to indulge a little with maybe one drink, but don't go overboard when celebrating.

Another idea to stick to your weight loss plan during thase holidays is to eat a healthy meal before you go out to spend time with friends and family. You won't have to worry about the unhealthy foods and you will be less tempted to snack on cookies and such.

Don't forget to have some fun outside. If it snows where you live you can burn calories by having some wintertime fun. You can have a snowball fight, go ice skating or walk up big hills to sled down. Remember to warm up first. When the temperature is low, you are more prone to injuries because your muscles can be tight. So it is important to warm up your body before you get down and dirty in the snow.

If it's not snowing, or you just don't want to be out in the cold, consider walking around the mall to burn some calories. Forget the elevators and escalators, use the stairs. Try joining or starting a walking group for extra motivation. Move around as much as you possibly can. Spread some holiday cheer and walk around your neighborhood for caroling. Some more options include walking up and down stairs for 20 minutes, swimming or doing water aerobics at an indoor pool or borrowing some new and different exercise DVDs at the library or from a friend.

Ask your friends and family not to give you gifts of food. If they do, pass them along. You can donate to local food banks, bring them into work or give to other friends or family members. Follow these tips and you will gain a lot less weight during the holiday season, if any at all.
