Slacker-Tested Ways for Losing Weight

Sure, I like to lose weight and have pushed myself to participate in various diets and exercise programs. But in spite of my best efforts, the expected results weren't forthcoming. My frustration levels reached a new high before I decided to forget about structured diets and exercises. There were too many of them that didn't work for me and even more important, the authors assumed that all bodies are the same.

So I ignored all of the well-intentioned advice and did things my way. And those things worked. And what's more, those ways, over time, do produce great results.

- Walk everyday for at least a half hour: Walking means moving around and the more you walk, the more exercise you get, the more you become used to walking and do more of it as a result. And the more you walk, the more weight you can potentially lose. You can walk anytime and anywhere you like. You can walk fast or slow (faster is always better) and can combine it with other movements as jogging and running.

- Choose your favorite physical activity and do it at least 3 times a week or more: Do you enjoy cycling? Swimming? Playing tennis or volleyball? Walking the dog? Hiking? Choose one or more and plan to do them as much as possible, or at the very least, three times a week. The beauty of finding and doing activities you already enjoy is that you look forward to them. They are more like play than exercise! And they also help you lose more weight and tone your body. I've also discovered that I can eat more without feeling guilty.

- Opt for fresh fruits and veggies. Make them more attractive and inviting to eat by arranging them in a salad or a smoothie. For example, cut a fresh apple into dice-sized pieces and include them in a bowl with fresh lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, peas, fresh carrots for a quick, satisfying lunch. You'll fill up in almost no time at all, eat healthier, and avoid common health issues. Avoid processed foods whenever possible...don't buy or eat them. You'll avoid ingesting harmful chemicals that make you sick!

- Eat slowly: Take the time to savor your food and avoid the temptation to stuff food in your mouth and eat fast. Doing that makes you eat more and worse, increases the size of your belly. To accommodate so much food at one time, the belly must expand. If you continue eating a lot of food in a short time, you'll find that you've stretched out your belly quite a bit and will have a harder time shrinking it. After all, the habit of eating a lot in a hurry at one time became established. CAUTION: I've tried eating slowly and found that doing so took a lot of getting used to. So don't worry if you find that eating slowly is difficult at first. Give yourself enough time to get used to eating slowly.
