The No Effort Weight Loss Program

If you're trying to lose weight but don't know where to start, the range of options can be overwhelming or even intimidating. Gyms are usually full of complicated equipment and machines, and the thought of joining an exercise class might be just too much for you to face initially. So if you're having trouble getting started with your weight loss goals, here are some simple exercises to get you moving.

- On your next visit to the shops, park your car in one of the car parks that is a long way from the entrance to the store. The extra distance you'll walk to and from the shops may not seem like much, but it's a great way to get you up and walking if you don't normally do any exercise. To increase the intensity you can walk faster, or make multiple trips to and from your car.

- Once you're comfortable walking to and from the car when it is parked a long way from the entrance, try carrying your groceries instead of using a shopping trolley. The weight of the bagged items will help strengthen your arms and shoulders - just make sure that the bags in each hand are roughly the same weight and evenly balanced, and that your grip is comfortable and not cutting off the blood supply to your fingers. Using reusable grocery bags with wide handles are a good option for this exercise.

- If you catch a bus or train to work, try getting off a stop early on the journey home and walk the rest of the way. This is an easy way to add incidental exercise into your daily routine and can be a good way for you to unwind after the day's work before you get home and make yourself comfortable.

- Many of us work in multi-storey buildings that operate a lift to each floor. If your building allows for it, try to take the stairs when you go to lunch or when you leave for the day. Although walking up the stairs will be harder, walking down the stairs is also beneficial. Make sure you have appropriate shoes on when doing so, and if you feel unsteady keep one hand on the stair railing for support as you go.

These simple exercises are great if you are looking to begin an exercise program and have low levels of fitness ability to start with. For many people lack of confidence or embarrassment can be a huge barrier to starting any fitness regime. With the activities listed previously, you don't need any special equipment, and they are activities that can be easily incorporated into your daily routine. Once your fitness levels have increased you can move on to more strenuous activities to further improve your weight loss results.
