The Thyroid Body Shape and Your Body's Ability to Burn Fat for Weight Loss

The thyroid produces four very important hormones that are involved in controlling metabolic rate... speed of your metabolism. Cortisol which is produced by the adrenal glands works in concert with these thyroid hormones to form the foundation of human metabolism. When there are insufficient or excessive amounts of thyroid hormones, body weight issues can result. Thin people generally have a faster rate of metabolism compared to people who are obese or overweight You might possibly know a skinny guy / gal who eats like a horse but never gains a pound compared to others who seemingly just look at food and gain weight. Both of these types of individuals are reflective of the rates of their individualized metabolism. For those who are trying to lose weight, contrary to popular belief, skipping meals and cutting calories runs counter to your weight loss efforts. This approach actually inhibits the action of thyroid hormones.

When overstimulated the thyroid produces excess amounts of thyroid hormones which leads to nervousness, weight loss, increased heart rate, and frequent bowel movements. Heart problems are usually associated with this thyroid condition. While there are several causes of hyperthyroidism, this condition is generally triggered by an auto-immune response that results in an over active and / or enlarged thyroid. This condition is known as Grave's Disease.

Hypothyroidism is the most common problem associated with the thyroid. When under- stimulated, activities of the thyroid become less prevalent leading to both physical and emotional stress. Insufficient thyroid hormones can further cause fatigue, lowered body temperature, depression, hair loss, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, constipation, dry skin, and weight gains. The increases in body weight are a direct result of a slowed down metabolism.

The Thyroid Body Shape

When the thyroid and its hormones are unhealthy, weight gains are common depending on the particular thyroid condition that is at play. Increased cholesterol and triglyceride levels that result with thyroid problems contribute to gaining weight. Fat is deposited and more evenly distributed over the entire body giving the appearance of being heavy all over the body.

Fatigue is one of the first signs of thyroid problems. Hair loss, brittle nails, cold feet / hands, loose skin under the chin /arms, and loss of hair on the outer edges of the eyebrows are also some of the common symptoms associated with thyroid issues and problems.

The fatigue experienced when thyroid issues are present often drives individuals to snack and eat as a means of the body trying to generate energy. Oftentimes, these cravings result in eating the wrong types of foods which can further contribute to gaining weight. Because many of these symptoms are indicative of problems with other glands of the endocrine system, the predominate characteristic of this body type is weight gain over the entire body.

While there are many factors that can lead to thyroid issues that result in development of the thyroid body shape, there are definitely things that individuals can do to get their thyroid to a healthy / healthier state of being. As previously mentioned in other posts, being careful along with being very selective of what you eat is one of the best courses of action that can be immediately taken.
