The Truth About Losing Weight

The truth about losing weight comes down to calories. If you truly want to lose weight and keep it off, you must consume fewer calories than you burn. Many people report losing a lot of weight in a short amount of time, but they are often losing body water or fluids rather than burning fat. You can exercise all you want or take any kind of magic pill, but if you consume more calories than you are burning, you are not going to lose weight.

A calorie is a specific measurement for a unit of energy. Depending on what kind of food you are eating and how much will determine how much energy that food represents in calories. To rid your body of a pound of fat, you must burn roughly 3500 calories more than you are consuming. The reason behind this is that one pound of body fat has roughly the caloric energy of 1914g of fat or 3500 calories.

If you want stay at your current weight, you would try to burn the same amount of calories that you are consuming. If you want to gain weight, you would increase your caloric intake to a higher amount than you are burning. To control calories, it also helps to weigh, count or measure your food.

It is also a good idea to watch your calories closely, especially if you are not happy with your current weight. It is also a great idea to record them in a food journal. This will help to keep yourself accountable to your goals and help to prevent slipping up. There are also computer programs available that make it easy to track calories. There are even apps available that you can use on your phone or electronic device if you have one. When recording your calories you should do it before the day starts or throughout the day, rather than waiting until the end of the day. If you wait until the end of the day, you may have already consumed too many calories.
